Reviews

As a longtime admirer of Klimt's work, I found this book to be quite engaging. My knowledge of art history is limited, and this often means that I love a painting or sculpture without knowing very much about its creator and creation. This was certainly true for my approach to the works of Gustav Klimt. After I read this book, however, my appreciation of his works had deepened greatly. To learn something about the subjects he painted was also to learn something important about Vienna in what many consider its golden age.The women Klimt painted are brought to near life by this book. I would strongly recommend it for anyone who plans to visit Vienna. Not only will it strengthen your understanding of Klimt as an artist. It will help you to understand the broader social and esthetic culture of the city.
